What is a Citizenship in Singapore?
Singapore Citizenship means being a legal citizen of the Republic of Singapore. It grants you specific rights and privileges, such as:
Voting Rights: The ability to participate in elections.
Right to Work: The freedom to work and reside in Singapore.
Social Benefits: Access to government services and social programs.
Passport: A Singaporean passport allows visa-free travel to many countries.
Becoming a Singapore Citizen involves meeting specific eligibility criteria and going through a legal process.
Benefits of Singapore Citizenship
Singapore is known for having one of the best passports in the world, which means that being a citizen of Singapore comes with a lot of benefits. This makes many people from other countries want to become citizens of Singapore. However, being a citizen also means having certain responsibilities and duties.
Here are some of the benefits of being a citizen of Singapore:

Visa Flexibility
Singapore passport holders can travel to many countries without needing to apply for a visa, which can take a long time to get approved.
Healthcare Subsidies
Citizens of Singapore receive more financial help for medical and hospital bills compared to permanent residents (PRs) and foreigners. There are also additional subsidies for those who need extra help with medical expenses.
Job Opportunities
Singaporean citizens have more job opportunities compared to PRs and foreigners. The government gives priority to locals when it comes to job openings.
Government Pension
Singaporean citizens and PRs have to contribute to a pension fund called the Central Provident Fund (CPF). This fund helps with things like buying a home, healthcare, and children's education. It can also lower the amount of tax a person has to pay each year.
Property Ownership
Singapore citizens have more options for buying and renting homes compared to PRs. They also have easier access to loans for buying property.
Parenthood Incentives
The Singapore government provides various support measures for parents, including financial help for medical expenses related to childbirth, cash bonuses for having children, tax rebates, and subsidies for infant care.
Singaporean children benefit from the Edusave Scheme.
This government initiative rewards academic and non-academic achievements, and can also help cover school fees. Singapore offers affordable education. Citizens enjoy low fees for public schools and significant subsidies for private and tertiary education.
Level | Singapore Citizen (S$) | Singapore PR (S$) | International Student (S$) |

Sponsorship of Long-Term Passes and Permanent Residency for Family members.
Singapore Citizens: Can sponsor their spouse, unmarried children under 21, and parents for long-term visas or permanent residency (PR).
Permanent Residents (PRs): Can only sponsor their spouse and unmarried children under 21 for PR.
Important things to know about becoming a Singapore Citizen
No dual citizenship
You can't have citizenship in another country after becoming Singaporean (except children until enlistment for military service or age 21).
National Service (for men)
All male Singaporean citizens must serve in the military. Registration starts at 16.5 years old, and enlistment usually happens at 18.
CPF Withdrawal Limitations
Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs) can withdraw the excess amount from their CPF account when they turn 55. The amount available for withdrawal is based on the balances in their respective CPF accounts. Starting at age 65, monthly payouts from the CPF Retirement Account (RA) will begin and continue for life. The amount of each monthly payout depends on the remaining balance in the RA.
